Condolences
Lihao Wang Alumni March 20, 2014

I was an exchange student from Fudan University to NTU in 2005. Dr Fu was the coordinator of the exchange programme at that time. He gave me so much help! In my memory, he was nice and humourous. It was all of sudden when I saw the bad news in NTU WKW's website. May Dr. Fu live peacefully forever. You will always live in our hearts. God bless.

Not knowing Dr FU very well as I had met him only several times in Singapore, HK and Taiwan at conferences or meetings. We chatted and swapped laughters. The last time we saw each other and chatted was at the annual convention of the Chinese Communication Association held at Catholic Providence University, Taichung, Taiwan. I went to his presentation and chated with him during breaks.  Cheerful as usual, he was such a delightful and learned scholar. I was shocked, indeed very shocked, to have learned of his sudden passing last night from a friend who was told of the sad news by Dr Trishia LIN. Wayne was a tall, healthy and strong man to me. How could such tragic thing happen to this nice young fellow! I simply could not believe it. Yet, reading this website, I felt so sad that this is true. May Wayne rest in peace, in a world where there is tranquility with no troubles. May his family be healthy and strong. I pray for them.

I just wanted to leave my condolences and a comforting scripture. John 5:28 reads- 'Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out." This speaks of a resurrection of our dead loved ones. I know you don't know me but you and the family will be in my prayers.

It was not God's purpose for humans to die. When you get a chance visit http://www.jw.org/en/bible-teachings/questions/our-suffering/. This site brought me so much comfort when I was going through my hard time.

I am shocked and deeply saddened by Dr Fu’s sudden and unexpected passing away.

I, like hundreds of his students, had the greatest respect and regard for him as an academic; especially his knowledge of the subjects and the way he interacted with mature students such as me.

I always found his lessons enlightening and the conversations we had, invigorating.

I was assigned TA responsibilities under Dr Fu for the term; but had to request for leave to attend to my mother’s eye surgery. Not only was he gracious enough to grant me the leave, but also kind enough to enquire after my mother’s health !

To Dr Fu’s family, I would like to convey my heart-felt condolences!

He will always be remembered as an outstanding academic and a wonderful human being!

Dr. Fu joined the Editorial Review Board of Language and Communication Quarterly in July. It was an honor to have worked with him. He was a well-known scholar in the field of communication studies. His service on the review board demonstrated that he was very professional. My deepest condolences to the family of Dr Fu.

When I received the email notification about the sudden passing of Dr Fu, I could not believe my eyes~ How can that be? It was after a couple of minutes when I came to senses after seeing the email a few times and realized that it was real. I was very sad as he is one of the very few nicest academics I have known personally and remain in touch all this while despite leaving the school for more than 10 years.

Dr Fu is a very dedicated, highly intelligent and helpful academic I got to know during my course. His laughter always made the class "less tense and more alive" and we were all inspired and benefitted a lot from his knowledge sharing. Words cannot be used to describe how good he is but this is always felt at heart. I miss his humbleness, laughter and professionalism.

Although it has been more than 10 years, we still remain contact. Whenever he came to visit the interns in MediaCorp (when I was working there then), we would meet and have lunch together. Knowing that his children loved hamsters and not familiar which breeds to buy, I did explain to him and he's very passionate these little animals and asked a lot of questions as he was not sure if he could take care of these animals properly. As such, I presented him 2 of my hamsters then for his children. And I knew they were in good hands.

Every year, we would also keep in touch (via email, tele-conversations) and via greeting cards. The last time we contacted was last year during Christmas time.

His passing will be a great lost to the school. While I feel very sad of his passing, I trust he has now settled well in God's house. May the strength and grace of God be his family at this time and I will keep you all in my prayers.

Dr Fu will always be in my heart, my cherished and dear academic, mentor and friend! God bless.
