Wayne Wei-Jen Fu

I am so surprised when I heard the news. I spoke to Wayne less than three weeks ago, and he was well. I even said that we should catch up once he comes back from Taiwan...

You will be sorely missed and rest in peace, Wayne. 

Wayne was my FYP tutor, very dedicated, patient and hands-on. He accompanied me to the library to show me how to extract data from the databases, and sat down with me for hours to teach me abstract econometrics and statistic. He was also an approachable teacher who often went out for lunches with the class. And he continued to do so after our graduation.

I took Wayne's Quantitative Stats class and it was a crazy horror learning numbers and stats, but he was a great teacher who guided us through all of it, smiling throughout all 13 weeks. Not only did he teach us exceedingly well, he touched us all with his friendly demeanor and humor. A witty and intelligent man, he knew how to bring out the best in his students for his subjects. I cannot remember a lesson where he did not joke or smile. As much of a big intellect he was, he treated us as his friends and his equals. I'll never forget his genuine and unassuming gesture of offering to join us students for lunch when we ran into him while queuing for food at the canteen. Wayne is certainly a professor, teacher, and friend that will be dearly missed by all.

I still remember vividly the funny stories that Wayne tells me, and the jokes he used to crack, even his animated expressions as he relates them. I wish I could hear his hearty laughter again.

Wayne, I could always count on you to give me true and honest advice. You were never afraid to share your views even when they were different from the group's. You stood for what you believed in, yet was always thoughtful in communicating your thoughts. Thank you for being a great influence in my life. Rest well.
