Michael You are my teather forever August 23, 2012

Wayne was my supervisor this semester.
I was deeply impressed by his prefession in academic area when I read his paper.
As far as I know, Wayne is an erudite scholar who make a confluence of statistics, economics, communication and psychology in his research.
Then I decide to come to NTU to study from Wayne and he gave a lot of instruction on research proposal writing and other issues.
When I came to Singapore, Wayne allocated me lots of time on imparting even though he was very busy.

I feel very shocked, sad and dismayed about Wayne's misfortune because of lossing such a kind, humorous and knowledgeable person.
I had just received an email from Wayne on last Friday and we would make a appointment on this Tuesday to have a talk. However...

Anyway, I really hope that the methodology which Wayne's use in his research could be developed and enhanced by WKW professors and students.

Deepest Condolences.

傅老师一路走好!
希望您能在那边无忧无虑地生活!
您永远都是我的老师、朋友!

Lee Chun Wah A Kind-hearted Person August 23, 2012

I remember Wayne as a kind-hearted colleague and friend.  He was soft-spoken and very considerate.
Thank you so much for your kindness and cheerful talks.   With fond memories.
Nikki Draper Compassion and humour August 23, 2012

My first memory of Wayne is of an accidental meeting in the pantry after his family first arrived. I asked
him how he was settling in and finding Singapore. He said, "Good!  I have made it 50% through -- no,
maybe 45% through (pause while he tilts his head to think about it for a moment) ok, let's just say
about 45-50% through -- the Makan Sutra."   And when I laughed out loud, he grinned back at me.
Wayne was also the first faculty member I remember seeing present to a group of students.  And
what struck me as he talked to people who were very anxious about whether or not they
would have the opportunity to go overseas, was how compassionate and respectful he was towards them.
He allayed their concerns, assured them of the fairness in the system, and treated their queries,
even the goofy ones with respect (and some humour).   It was inspiring.  Wayne, I'm going to miss your
presence in the school, the small kindnesses you did for everyone and the times you walked down the
hallway and stopped to chat for a minute or invited me into your office to chat about family, food and
fun.
Hao Xiaoming A man named benevolence August 23, 2012

Wayne and I have come from different backgrounds.  Our fathers might have even fought in the same battlefield but on different sides during China’s civil war.  Nevertheless, we have a lot in common and see eye to eye on many things.  Over the years, I have enjoyed having lunch with Wayne on a regular basis and expected his unannounced visits to my office, where we can have private conversations on many things. As a man, Wayne can be best described by his Chinese name, “great benevolence”, which is ranked the top of the five virtues in Chinese culture.  In addition to being a man of benevolence, Wayne is also a standing example of the other four virtues – righteousness, manners, wisdom and trustworthiness.

Wayne, I will miss you and our conversations.

Rachel Neo A wonderful prof August 23, 2012

I was extremely sad and shocked when I heard that Wayne had passed away. He really appreciated my quirky sense of humor, and on FYP moderation day, he helped to lighten the somber atmosphere at the presentation venue by asking me (jokingly) why his name wasn't in my Acknowledgement Page. I really enjoyed hearing his stories about all things Taiwan, the history, the culture, and the food and will greatly miss the time spent having lunches with you and Clarice at the Quad, and the Staff Lounge. May you rest in peace, Wayne!
